Regents Lose Fierce Battle To Illinois Tech

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team (6-12, 0-4 NACC) battled from behind to take the match to five sets, before falling to Illinois Tech (4-10, 1-2 NACC) 3-2. The Regents showed a great deal of grit as they found themselves down 2-0 early. Rockford pulled together showing extreme focus and determination, taking the next two consecutive sets to force a fifth set. Unfortunately, it was Illinois Tech who came out victorious, 3-2.

  • Illinois Tech was the first to get on the board with four consecutive points in the first set.
  • Illinois Tech started to pull away with a score of 13-7.
  • Later in the set the Regents answered with a service ace from Jennifer Quintas to make it 15-10.
  • The Regents battled back with a 7-2 point run led by a pair of kills hammered down by Jessica Witkowski and Nicole Eggers to put the Regents within one, 18-17.
  • Illinois Tech retained the lead at 21-20 late in the first set.
  • Paige Carpenter's monstrous kill tied the set at 21-21.
  • Illinois Tech scored the next four points to take set one, 25-21.
  • Points were traded back and forth in the second set keeping it close. 
  • Illinois Tech gained a sizable lead at 14-7.
  • The Regents started to claw their way back with a kill from Nicole Eggers making it 16-10.
  • Late in the second set, Rockford put together a 5-2 point run capped off by two kills coming from Della Crain, 24-20. 
  • Despite the Regents strong push, Illinois Tech won set two, 25-20.
  • During set three, Illinois Tech jumped out to a 7-3 lead. 
  • However, the Regents fought back with a 7-1 point run highlighted by impressive kills from Mackenzie Blizniak, Amelia Rehberg, Jessica Witkowski, and Nicole Eggers to trail Illinois Tech 10-8.
  • Rockford gained control of the third set taking a 19-13 lead off a tremendous kill from Della Crain.
  • The Regents increased their lead to 23-17 with a kill coming from Jacey Wilson.
  • Mackenzie Blizniak shut the door with a thunderous kill for the Regents to win the third set 25-19.
  • The fourth set got off to a close start with the two teams locked at 4-4.
  • Illinois Tech increased their lead with a 6-1 point run to make the score 10-5.
  • Illinois Tech followed that up with a 6-2 point run to lead 17-9 over the Regents.
  • The Regents put together a 8-3 point run to close the gap, 20-17. Della Crain led the charge with four kills.
  • Rockford found themselves down 24-18. 
  • The Regents did not give up. An intense effort was put forth to tie the fourth set at 24-24. During this amazing show of talent and motivation, Jessica Witkowski recorded a service ace while Jacey Wilson recorded the kill to tie the set. 
  • Both teams traded points before Della Crain forced a fifth set with a flawless kill, winning the fourth set 28-26. 
  • The fifth and final set proved to be a dog fight starting out tied 5-5.
  • Rockford took a 7-6 lead off an attack error.
  • Unfortunately, the Regents fell in the fifth set 15-9. Losing the hard fought match 3-2.

The Rockford University women's volleyball team returns to the court on Saturday, October 5 at home against Dominican University. The match has a scheduled start time of 5:30 PM in the Seaver Center.
