ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's tennis team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon when the NACC leading Edgewood College Eagles came to town. The Regents knew it was going to be a difficult task to knock off the Eagles as they entered the match with an unblemished 8-0 record in conference play. Despite Rockford's best efforts to play spoiler, Edgewood kept its perfect record intact winning the dual meet 9-0.
Although the scores might indicate it was a an easy victory for the Eagles, the Regents played them tough inducing a lot of long rallies and hard fought points. Senior Alexis Ford (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) was one of the Regents who pushed her opponent. Ford battled hard in her match forcing her opponent to hit multiple extra shots but eventually fell 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Ashley Keola (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) continues to work her way up the team rankings, now playing in one of the top three singles positions for Rockford. Keola played hard but was not able to break through dropping her match 6-2, 6-2.
The women's tennis team concludes its season on Saturday, September 28th with a pair of dual meets in the Milwaukee area. Rockford will begin at 10:00 a.m. against Wisconsin Lutheran College and will finish its day at 2:00 p.m. against Alverno College.
