Tony Diemer's Free Throws Seal the Victory in Overtime against the Cougars on Senior Night

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (12-10, 11-6 NACC) honored its six seniors by picking up the 104-102 overtime victory on Wednesday night when it hosted the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (5-15, 5-10 NACC). Those seniors were as follows: Will Adams (Chicago, Ill.), Dante Cameron (Prescott, Ariz.), Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.), Talon Hardin (Rantoul, Ill.), Taylor Krocker (Portage, Wis.) and Jeremiah Stewart (Chicago, Ill.). It was a tightly contested affair that featured 8 lead changes. Down 45-40 at the half the Cougars fought their way back in the second half to force overtime after a last second shot by the Regents fell short. It would be Tony Diemer who answered the call as he drove to basket and drew a follow to go to line. Diemer converted both his shots to give Rockford the 104-102 victory over the Cougars. 



  • It was a tightly contested affair from the tip as each team was vying for a sizeable lead.
  • The score would be all tied at 12-12 until Will Adams knocked down a jumper to give the Regents the lead. 
  • Rockford would hold onto the lead until the Cougars hit from three to take a 24-22 advantage with 9:59 left on the clock.
  • Rockford found itself trailing 28-24 and put together a 5-0 run capped off by a 
    Talon Hardin three to regain the lead.
  • After back-to-back threes from Hardin and Tony Diemer the Regents were up 43-34 with 1:55 to play in the half. The nine-point lead would be the largest lead for either team during the first half. 
  • From there the Cougars would go on a 6-2 run to close out the half as Rockford went into the break leading 45-40.
  • Tony Diemer led the way for the Regents at the half with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Kevin Diemer did well as he connected for 10 points. Both Diemer's finished with 6 rebounds in the half.
  • Brandon Emerick (Elhart, Ind.) and Kivontay Shaw (Galesburg, Ill.) helped open the second half with three's as Rockford took a 53-45 lead early.
  • RU took advantage of a 7-2 run to take its largest lead of the game at 64-53 with 13:13 to play.
  • CUC clawed its way back into the game cutting it to 69-62 with 10:44 on the clock. Taylor Krocker helped stop the comeback as he drilled a three on the ensuing possession.
  • The Cougars again managed to cut into the lead, this time trailing only by five at 76-71.
  • Both teams continued to exchange buckets down the stretch as RU remained in the lead 87-82 with 3:35 remaining.
  • Moments later Tony Diemer knocked down two big free throws to extend the lead.
  • Talon Hardin helped add to the cushion knocking down a corner three to put Rockford up ten.
  • The Cougars remained persistent clawing back again to trail 92-88 after four consecutive free throws with 1:25 to play.
  • CUC was resilient as they cut it to a one-point game at 93-92 with 43 seconds remaining. 
  • Kevin Diemer would convert one of his attempts from the line to increase the lead to two as CUC took a timeout with 21.3 seconds left. 
  • The Cougars converted on a layup to tie the game up. Unfortunately, the Regents final shot fell short and the two teams headed to overtime.
  • With RU trailing early Kevin Diemer converted on an and-one to take a 97-96 lead. Tony Diemer helped add to the lead by connecting on an acrobatic layup on the next possession.
  • CUC retook the lead at 100-99 with 2:39 to play. Tony Diemer answered the call as he drilled a step back three to take a 102-100 lead. 
  • All knotted at 102-102 RU took a timeout to draw up a play with 15.2 left on the clock.
  • The senior Tony Diemer drove to the hoop and drew the foul with 2 seconds left on the clock. Diemer would convert both to give RU the 104-102 lead.
  • The inbound attempt would come up short and Rockford would seal the game at 104-102.


  • Five Rockford players finished scoring double-digits.
  • The Diemer brothers were an unstoppable pair on Wednesday night.
  • Tony Diemer recorded his fifth double-double on the season while leading the Regents with a team-high 23 points and 14 rebounds. Diemer shot 8-for-16 from the floor, 2-for-4 from three and 5-of-8 from the free throw line including the game sealing shots in overtime.
  • Kevin Diemer picked up his sixth double-double on the year recording a game-tying 15 rebounds and 22 points on 9-for-16 shooting including 4-of-5 from the stripe. Diemer also added 3 assists.
  • Brandon Emerick tallied 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
  • Kivontay Shaw registered 14 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal.
  • Taylor Krocker did well off the bench contributing 11 points and 4 boards.




The Rockford University men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 9 when it travels to Edgewood. Tip-off is set for 4:15 PM. The Regents can earn a playoff berth with a win over Edgewood on Saturday.
