Regents Come Up Short in their Season Finale

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team (1-9, 0-7 NACC) lost 38-28 in its final game of the season against Eureka College (6-4, 4-3 NACC). The start of the game was off to a rough start with Eureka scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. Rockford got up on the board in the second quarter with a touchdown by Christian Mazurkiewicz. Rockford kept the game close with a 75 yard touchdown from Kalan Miller and two touchdowns from Adam Ambrogio. Jallen Bashford had a strong showing on defense once again and is currently the nations leader in tackles, while also destroying the NACC single-season record for number of tackles and the Rockford University single-season record for tackles. Unfortunately, Eureka's offense was too much to handle leading to the Regents loss.

 

  • Rockford elected to receive to start the game. The Regents first drive was a quick four and out.
  • Eureka capitalized on its first scoring opportunity of the game when James Douglas III returned a punt for a 70 yard touchdown. The extra point was good to make it a 7-0 game.
  • The Red Devils quickly scored again on their second possession of the game to lead 14-0 after the made extra point.
  • The Regents were the first to strike in the second quarter from Christian Mazurkiewicz quarterback keeper punching it into the endzone. Rockford was able to drive the ball 94 yards down the field resulting in the touchdown, converting on two third downs. After the extra point from Gerardo Zamudio, Rockford was trailing 14-8.
  • Eureka was able to kick a field goal to put themselves up 17-8 with 1:46 left to play in the half.
  • After a 15 yard pass to Joey Owens, Christian Mazurkiewicz completed a pass to Kalan Miller for a 75 yard touchdown. Gerardo Zamudio's extra point kick was good, Eureka still led 17-15.
  • Both teams played tough defense leading to a scoreless third quarter.
  • The Red Devils scored on their first drive of the fourth quarter, going up 24-15.
  • Rockford answered with a pass from LaVar Johnson Jr. to Adam Ambrogio for a 46 yard touchdown. The extra point made it 24-22 in Eureka's favor.
  • Eureka scored on its next possession from a 15 yard pass to make it 31-22.
  • The Red Devils intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown to increase their lead to 38-22 with 3:42 left to play in the game.
  • On the next drive of the fourth quarter, Rockford's Adam Ambrogio scored his second touchdown of the game off a 13 yard pass from Christian Mazurkiewicz. Rockford tried going after the two-point conversion but the pass attempt was failed, Eureka leads 38-28.
  • However, Rockford did not put together another scoring drive, resulting in the 38-28 loss.

  • Christian Mazurkiewicz complete 11-of-25 passes for 219 yards and had one rushing touchdown.
  • LaVar Johnson Jr. had 16 carries for 61 yards. He ranks third in Rockford University history with 19 career rushing touchdowns and fourth with 1,623 career rushing yards.
  • Adam Ambrogio caught two passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Ambrogio ranks fifth in the Rockford University record books for career receiving touchdowns with 12.
  • Kalan Miller caught 5 passes for 127 yards and one touchdown. Miller ranks number one in career receiving yards for Rockford University with 1,726. He also ties for second in career receiving touchdowns with 18 and ranks third in career receptions with 113.
  • Jallen Bashford tied his season high with 19 tackles. He has broken the Rockford University and NACC single-season tackles record with 149 total tackles. Bashford also leads the nation in tackles currently but the statistical champion will not be awarded until after the title game in December.
  • Bryce LaFollet recorded 12 tackles.
  • Michael Gay recorded 11 tackles.
  • Garrick McGregor recorded an interception and three tackles.
