Cross Country Finishes Eighth and Tenth at NACC Championships

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University men's and women's cross country teams placed eighth and tenth respectively at the 2016 NACC Championships on Saturday. The men finished with a total score of 192 which was just one point behind the seventh place team, while the women recorded a team score of 308. However, the women's team did move up one spot in the standings from last year's overall finish, while the men's team remained the same.

Sophomore Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) had the top finish of any Regent at the NACC Championships. Werkheiser completed the 8k race in 30:20.80 for a 35th place finish. 

Fellow sophomore Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) improved his finish by one spot compared to last year's conference championships. Devant placed 44th and crossed the finish line in 30:48.19.

Senior John Finley (Rockford, Ill.) moved up six places in the individual standings compared to a season ago. Finley crossed the finish line in 32:38.12 to finish in 62nd place.

Nick Noel (Belivdere, Ill.) and Kyle Roewer (Belvidere, Ill.) were the final two participants on the men's side for the Regents. Noel finished in 71st place with a time of 33:55.49, and Roewer finished in 74th place with a time of 34:44.79.

Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) was the top performer for the RU women's team. In her first 6k race as a Regent, Collins placed 60th and crossed the finish line in 28:57.45.

Ali Moore (Mascoutah, Ill.) also had an excellent showing in her first collegiate cross country meet. Moore finished in 86th place with a time of 30:48.88.

Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.)Tracy Wang (Lianyungang, China) and Jovana Ubiparipovic (Roscoe, Ill.) were the final three women to compete on Saturday. Buechner placed 110th with a time of 35:01.41, Wang finished 115th with a time of 36:56.27 and Ubiparipovic placed 126th with a time of 46:36.48.

The RU cross country teams will be back in action in two weeks at the NCAA Midwest Regional.
