DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Regents men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Loras Invite on Friday, which is both team's final tune-up prior to the NACC Championships in two weeks. The men's team placed eighth, while the women's team did not record a team score.
Sophomore Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) was the top performer for Rockford. Devant finished in 18th place out of 96 total runners. His time of 27:50.8 was just a half a second off his season best time from last week.
Fellow sophomore Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) continued to run well in just his third 8k race of the season. Werkheiser finished in 64th place as he crossed the finish line in 30:09.8.
The duo of Nick Noel (Belvidere, Ill.) and John Finley (Rockford, Ill.) finished just one spot apart placing 75th and 76th respectively. Noel completed the race in 31:03.0, while Finley recorded a time of 31:07.2.
Rockford's final two participants on the men's team were freshman Maxi Herrera-Herrera (Rockford, Ill.) and junior Kyle Roewer (Belvidere, Ill.). Herrera-Herrera finished in 88th place with a time of 32:38.0, and Roewer set a new personal best as he crossed the finish line in 34:10.7 to finish in 95th place.
The lone runner for the RU women's cross country team was Tracy Wang (Lianyungang, China). Wang placed 72nd with a time of 36:21.8.
The RU men's and women's cross country teams return to competition on Saturday, October 29 at the NACC Championships.
