ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University volleyball team took to the court Saturday afternoon as well as to honor its lone senior, Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.). Unfortunately for the Regents they were not able to come up with a win. Lakeland won in three straight sets with score of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-19.
RU played tough but the LU attack proved to be too much. In the third set the Regents were down 24-12, but continued to battle as they went on a 7-0 run to cut the score to 24-19 before Lakeland would come away with the final point. Maddison Hiland (Bellevue, Iowa) led the Regent attack with 9 kills. Freshman Jessica Diaz (Bolingbrook, Ill.) helped contribute with 5 kills of her own. Setter Kayla Barthels (Fort Worth, Texas) helped distribute the ball as she notched 19 assists during the match. On the defensive side Jennifer Quintas (Rockford, Ill.) was constantly sprawling out making plays as she tallied 14 digs on the day. Storey played well on her senior day as she was next in line with digs, chalking up 8.
RU volleyball returns to the court as they host Edgewood College on Tuesday, October 24. The match has a scheduled start time of 7 PM.
