ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University volleyball team returned to action today to take on Knox College in a non-conference match. The Regents attempted to overcome sluggish starts in the first two sets but were unable to do so falling behind 2-0. Rockford fought back to earn the victory in the third set, but dropped the fourth to fall 3-1 in four sets.
In the first set Rockford fell behind from the opening serve, however, they fought back to within a point at 24-23 before dropping the final point. The Regents fell by the score of 25-23. The team tallied 14 kills on 41 attempts and 7 errors. In the second set the Regents again fell behind immediately. This time Rockford was unable to claw back into the game and fell 25-15. The team had 10 kills on 30 attempts and 5 errors.
Rockford came out in the third set and looked rejuvenated as they continually knocked Knox further and further behind. The Regents took over the game and brought themselves back into the match beating the Prairie Fire 25-17. The team finished the set with 11 kills on 39 attempts and 2 errors. In the fourth set the Regents and Prairie Fire were locked in a tight match throughout. Unfortunately, Knox pulled away in the final few points to ultimately win the set 25-21. Rockford totaled 12 kills on 32 attempts and 3 errors.
Leading the team were senior Liberty Hartman (Freeport, Ill.) recording a double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs. She also added 2 service aces and 1 block assist. Senior Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.) tallied a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs. Senior Amanda Korte (Davis, Ill.) added 6 kills on only 18 attempts with 3 block assists and 1 block solo. Freshman McKenna Turek (Rockford, Ill.) tallied 15 digs for a team-high. Freshman August Guest (Lahaina, Hawaii) posted 9 kills and 4 digs.
The Rockford University volleyball team returns to action Tuesday, September 27 at Beloit College with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
