MT. VERNON, IOWA - The Rockford University men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated in their second meet of the season on Saturday at the Cornell Invite. Rockford continued to show improvement as multiple Regents set new personal bests as well as breaking one school record. As a team, the RU men placed seventh, while the women were unable to record a team score.
The top individual performance of the day belonged to freshman Nathan Alldritt (Winnebago, Ill.). Alldritt placed third in the pole vault and broke his own school record with a height of 3.90 meters. He also took twelfth in the 60 meter dash and twentieth in the 200 meter race with respective times of 7.48 seconds and 25.36 seconds.
Senior John Finley (Rockford, Ill.) also ran well as he recorded Rockford's other top five finish. Finley placed fourth in the 3000 meter race crossing the finish line in 10:11.02. He then ran in the mile race where he finished in sixteenth place with a time of 5:07.31.
Sophomore Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.) led the way in the throwing events with a pair of top ten finishes. Johnson's best effort came in the shot put event where he finished sixth and set a new personal best with a throw of 11.89 meters. The sophomore also took seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 9.90 meters.
Jonathan Ponce Cuiriz (Kewanee, Ill.) had a good showing for the Regents as well. Ponce Cuiriz took eighth place in the weight throw and set a new personal best with a distance of 9.89 meters. He then participated in the shot put, finishing eleventh with a throw of 9.28 meters.
Junior Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.) was the top performer for the RU women's team. Buechner placed ninth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.79 seconds and tenth in the 200 meter race crossing the finish line in 29.59 seconds.
Fellow junior Nicole Melson (Harvard, Ill.) led the way for the RU women in the field events. Melson took fifteenth in the shot put with a distance of 8.90 meters.
The RU men's and women's indoor track and field teams return to competition next Saturday, January 28 at the Pioneer Open in Platteville, Wisconsin.
