LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team took to the field Saturday afternoon against Blackburn College. The game was evenly contested in the first, as the two teams went into the half with one goal a piece. The Beavers scored the lone goal in the second which would prove to be enough, as they went on to win the game 2-1.
It did not take long for the scoring to occur, as just six minutes into the game a penalty kick was awarded to the Beavers. BC capitalized on its kick and went up on the Regents 1-0. Come the 22 minute mark, Lexie Collins (Earville, Ill.) found teammate Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.) who gave RU the equalizer as she struck the ball into the top right corner of the net. The Regents went into the half tied 1-1 and came out in the second looking for the game winner. Unfortunately that was not the case as Blackburn College found the back of the net five minutes into the half. The goal would prove to be enough to hold on for the victory. Rockford University had its chances to equalize as they outshot the Beavers 15-6 in the second half, but could not come away with a goal. With the loss the Regents drop to 3-5 on the year.
The Rockford University women's team takes on Greenville on Friday September 22 at Sportscore 2. The match is scheduled for a 5:00 PM kickoff.
