MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team kicked off its 2017 season with a tough road test against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots. The Regents got off to a slow start as the Fighting Scots jumped out to 7-0 lead just over 26 minutes into the match. However. from that moment on, the Regents dug deep and began to play a lot better. Rockford held Monmouth scoreless for the remainder of the match and allowed just 6 shots over the final 45 minutes compared to 22 shots in the first half. Unfortunately it was not enough as the Regents dropped their season opener by a final score of 7-0.
Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) led the Rockford attack recording one shot including the Regents' lone shot on goal. Rockford's other shot attempt in the match came off the foot of senior Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.).
The RU women's soccer team will look to even its record on the season this Saturday when the ladies travel to Iowa Wesleyan University. The match has a scheduled start time of 2:00 PM.
