ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's soccer team returned to action today to take on North Park University. The Vikings jumped out to an early lead in the first half, 4-0. Ultimately, the Regents added a goal of their own before allowing one more to fall by the final of 5-1.
With Rockford falling behind in the first half they had an uphill battle to get back into the game entering the second half. However, the Regents were able to score first in the second half as Morgan Bell (Rockford, Ill.) connected on her first goal of the season. The goal was assisted by a beautiful cross pass through the box from Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.). The assist was Collins' sixth of the season. Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to put together any other scoring opportunities in the second half to fall by the final of 5-1.
Leading the Regents on the day were Bell with 1 shot and 1 goal. Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.) added 1 shot, with it coming on goal. Collins recorded the team's only assist.
Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) posted 20 saves on 25 shot attempts. The 20 saves were a career-high in a Regent uniform.
The Rockford University women's soccer team returns to action Tuesday, October 25 to take on Maranatha Baptist University in Wedgbury Stadium at SportsCore Two with a scheduled start time of 4 p.m.
