ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's soccer team returned to action today to take on Faith Baptist Bible College. The Regents were outstanding offensively today as they posted seven goals. Rockford ultimately won the game by the final of 7-0.
The Regents wasted no time taking the lead as the got on the board 40 seconds into the game when Ali Moore (Mascoutah, Ill.) booted a shot into the back of the net off of two nice passes from Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) and Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.). Again, Rockford added to their lead as they scored in the third minute of the game when Ortega scored off of an assist by Cassandra Hernandez (Rockford, Ill.). In the 18th and 26th minute Collins added her two goals of the game off of beautiful passes from Ortega. Rockford took the 4-0 lead into the half. The Regents totaled 19 shots in the opening half. In the second half, Rockford did not take their foot off the gas pedal as they added their fifth goal in 50th minute of the game when Hernandez scored the first goal of her collegiate career off of a nice cross in the box from Lesly Herrera (Rockford, Ill.). Ortega added her second and third goals of the game in the 54th and 78th minute off of an assist from Victoria Rodgers (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Mackenzi Hesselbart (Elkhart, Ind.). The Regents ultimately earned their third victory of the season with the final of 7-0.
Leading Rockford on the day were Giovana Ortega with 3 goals, on 9 attempts and 3 assists. Lexie Collins tallied two goals, on 5 attempts and 1 assist. Cassandra Hernandez posted 1 goal and 1 assist. Ali Moore also added a goal.
The Rockford University women's soccer team returns to action Saturday, October 15 to take on Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids, Mich. with a scheduled start time of 10 a.m.
