MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University women's soccer team was hoping to win its second match this week when the Regents hit the road on Saturday to take on the Mount Mary University Blue Angels. Entering the match, Rockford had won three straight meetings between the two schools including a 9-0 victory last year. However, that winning streak would come to an end as it was the Blue Angels who scored a 4-1 win.
Rockford dug itself into an early hole that it was never quite able to climb out of, as Mount Mary opened the match scoring a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes to grab a quick 2-0 advantage. The Regents only goal of the afternoon came in the 31st minute when Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) found the back of the net off an assist from Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.) to make it a 2-1 game. Unfortunately, the Blue Angels answered right back with a goal of their own to take a 3-1 lead entering halftime. Mount Mary would then put the game away with a goal early in the second half en route to a 4-1 victory.
The RU women's soccer team returns to the field on Wednesday, October 5 against Millikin University. The match has a scheduled start time of 4:00 PM at Sam Greeley Field.
