CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team played its best match in weeks on Saturday against the Blackburn College Beavers. It was the fourth straight road contest for Rockford as the Regents will be glad to wrap up their current five-match road trip early next week. Unfortunately, the Regents were shut out for the fifth straight time falling 3-0 to the Beavers.
All of the scoring took place in the second half as neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes. The Beavers scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half and then added one final score in 82nd minute to seal the 3-0 win.
Rockford goalkeeper Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) was outstanding in the match. Mendoza made 10 saves on the Beavers 13 total shots on goal. This marks the second time this year and the fourth time in her career that she has recorded double-digit saves in a match.
Offensively Rockford did a much better job attacking the net as the Regents had 9 total shots, 5 of which came on goal. Freshmen Samantha Moreno (East Moline, Ill.) and Cassandra Hernandez (Rockford, Ill.) each had 3 shots including 2 shots on goal.
The RU women's soccer team concludes its five-match road trip on Tuesday, September 20 at Dominican University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
