ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (4-11, 2-8 NACC) hosted the first place Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors (13-1, 10-0 NACC) on Saturday evening. WLC continues to be undefeated in NACC play as the Warriors topped the Regents 73-42. Wisconsin Lutheran made its trips to the line count as WLC went 21-for-25 on its free throws. It was tough for Rockford to ever get into the game as turnovers would prove to be costly. The Warriors would make sure to capitalize scoring 27 points off turnovers alone.
The first quarter would be back-and-forth despite Rockford trailing 16-8 going into the second quarter. The Regents played well defensively as RU managed to hold the WLC high octane offense to just 16 first quarter points. The Second quarter would not be the same story as the Warriors found its groove and outscored the Regents 30-6 in the quarter. Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) led the Regents with 8 points and 2 rebounds. RU would go into the half trailing 46-14. WLC lead was contributed to shooting 48.5% from the floor in the first half compared to Rockford's 25%.
Rockford came out in the third quarter playing very similar to the first. RU got back to playing hard defense as it only surrendered 16 points again in the quarter. Rockford played better offensively as well as the Regents scored 11 points in the third. Katlyn Fiorucci (Machesney Park, Ill.) and Maddy Pearson (Peru, Ill.) led the charge with 4 points apiece in the third. In the fourth quarter it was too little too late as the Regents outscored the Warriors 17-11 in the quarter in part from the team shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc to help cut into the deficit. However, it would not be enough as Wisconsin Lutheran would walk away with a 73-42 victory. The improved defense in the second half showed as Rockford held WLC to just 25% shooting from the floor.
There were multiple scorers for Rockford on the night but none to crack double-digits. Katlyn Fiorucci led the team coming off the bench to score 9 points, 2 rebounds and an assist. Linzy Keller (Rockford, Ill.) ended with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist. Nicole Silvers tallied 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, one block and one steal. Maddy Pearson came off the bench registering 6 points and 4 rebounds. Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.) chalked up 5 rebounds, 4 points, 3 assists, one block and one steal.
