BELOIT, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team dropped its third straight game to begin the season, 76-53 to the Beloit College Buccaneers (1-4). It was a tough night for the Regents as the Buccaneers seemed to be clicking on all cylinders on both ends of the floor. Beloit shot a blistering 55.0% from the floor compared just 32.2% shooting for Rockford. The Bucs also dominated the boards, outrebounding Rockford 43-26 and in turn limiting the Regents to just 4 second chance points.
Although the Regents never led, the game was within reach for the majority of the first half. Senior Casey Pettit (Rockford, Ill.) and junior Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) combined to score Rockford's first six points of the evening as the Regents trailed 7-6 just over 4 minutes into the game. The Bucs' lead would hover around three points for the remainder of the quarter until Beloit closed on a 4-0 run to take a 20-13 advantage into the second quarter. Following a quick bucket by Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.) to open the period, the Bucs used a 15-1 run to take a commanding 40-24 lead into halftime.
The second half did not go much better as Rockford really only threatened to get back into the game on one occasion. After Beloit had built its lead to at the game a game-high 20 points, Rockford went on a 10-2 run to pull back within 12 at 50-38. Linzy Keller (Rockford, Ill.) led the charge for the Regents scoring 5 of the 10 points including knocking down one of her two 3-pointers. Unfortunately the Bucs answered right back with a 7-0 run of its own en route to a 76-53 win.
The Regents had four players score at least seven points in the game. Nicole Silvers hit double-figures for the first time this season with a team-high 18 points. Silvers was especially effective from beyond the arc, draining 3 of her 5 attempts. Linzy Keller also played well adding 8 points and 3 rebounds. Tajanae Key had a solid all-around game with 7 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists and 1 block. Casey Pettit finished with 7 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal.
The RU women's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, December 2 at home against Concordia University Chicago. Tip-off is set for 4:15 PM in the Seaver Center.
