ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University softball team returned to action today to take on Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. The Falcons came into the day in first-place in the NACC standings to give the Regents a tough challenge. Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to edge Concordia falling by the finals of 16-3 and 10-1.
In the first game CUW jumped out to 9-0 lead in the third inning. However, the Regents were able to respond with three runs of their own in the third inning. The scoring began when Stefaney Kenworthy (Veedersburg, Ind.) hit an RBI single through the left side to drive in Shannon LeGath (Sturtevant, Wis.). Next Brittany Bihun (Schaumburg, Ill.) smoked an RBI single to right-center field to plate Lisa Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.). Lastly, Brooke Burris (Galatia, Ill.) hit an RBI groundout to bring in Kenworthy. Rockford had narrowed their deficit to 9-3. Unfortunately, CUW scored the next seven runs to win by the final of 16-3.
In game two, it was the Regents jumping on the board first taking advantage of a Falcon error. The run came when Lisa Blakeley-Snyder used aggressive baserunning advancing to third on a groundout forcing an errant throw from the first basemen to allow her to advance home. RU took the lead 1-0 and would hold that lead until CUW busted open the game with 10 runs in the fourth inning. Ultimately, the Regents fell by the final of 10-1.
RU returns to action Friday, April 28 to take on Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wis. with a scheduled start time of 3 p.m.
