MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University softball team dropped both of its road games on Saturday to the MSOE Raiders. The opener was a pitcher's duel nearly the entire game as all four of the runs were scored in the same half inning. Unfortunately it was the Raiders who broke through with a four-run fourth to win game one 4-0. Game two was extremely tough for the Regents as the Raiders scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 14-4 win.
RU pitcher Stefaney Kenworthy (Veedersburg, Ind.) pitched very well in game one. Kenworthy tossed her team-leading 14th complete game of the season allowing just four runs on five hits while striking out two. The senior was nearly lights out through the first four innings as the Raiders mustered just one hit heading into the bottom of the fifth. However thats when things would begin to swing in MSOE's favor as the Raiders scored four two-out runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead. Unfortunately that was more than enough as Rockford was never able to find its groove offensively. The Regents recorded just two hits in the game and ultimately fell by a final score of 4-0.
Game two was a struggle from the get-go as Rockford surrendered 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Regents were able to get back within nine at one point, before ultimately falling 14-4 in five innings.
Offensively in game two, the Regents scored a single run in the second and three more in the fourth. Lynn Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.) led off the second with a single and then worked her way over to third base with two outs. Abigail Wellwood (Rockford, Ill.) would then single into center to drive in Rockford's first run of the day. The Regents final three runs came in the fourth inning. Following an MSOE error, Taylor Pilarczyk (Chicago, Ill.) and Nicole McCabe (Brookfield, Ill.) strung together back-to-back singles as the Regents loaded the bases with just one out. Junior Abigail Wellwood followed with a walk to drive in the first run of the inning and her second of the game. Rockford would add its final two runs of the day on the very next play courtesy of another MSOE error. However it was not enough as the Raiders won the game in the fifth to complete the series sweep.
The RU softball team returns to the diamond on Sunday, April 23 at home against Concordia Wisconsin. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for noon at the Smith Athletic Field.
