Men's Cross Country Races to Personal and Season Bests at the NCAA Midwest Regional

WINNECONNE, Wis. - The RU men's cross country team concluded its season on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. This is traditionally one of the toughest regionals in the country and this year was no exception. Four of the top eleven teams including three of the top five and the number one ranked team in Division III took part in the 8k race on Saturday. Despite the difficult competition, the Regents improved six spots from last year finishing in 31st place.  

Sophomore Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) was the top performer for the Regents on Saturday. Devant crossed the finish line with a personal best time of 27:22.8 to finish 136th out of 244 total runners. 

Fellow sophomore Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) wrapped up his season with yet another impressive performance. Werkheiser also set a personal best as he finished with a time of 27:48.6 to place 160th. 

Senior John Finley (Rockford, Ill.) concluded his collegiate career on Saturday. Finley turned in his best effort of the year as he crossed the finish line with a season best time of 29:18.0 to finish in 198th place.

Nick Noel (Belvidere, Ill.), Kyle Roewer (Belvidere, Ill.) and Maxi Herrera-Herrera (Rockford, Ill.) were the final three participants for the Regents. Noel finished in 222nd place with a time of 31:12.8, while Herrera-Herrera placed 242nd with a time of 34:10.5. Roewer set a personal best in the 8k race with a time of 31:59.5 to finish in 230th place.
