BELOIT, Wis. - The Rockford University men's cross team sprinted back into action on Saturday when the Regents took part in the Beloit Olde English Meet. Rockford had a total of six runners participate as the Regents took fifth place as a team.
Sophomore Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) placed fourth in the meet for the second straight season, and his time of 28:55.3 was less than 8 seconds behind the third place runner. Devant has finished in the top 25 in all three meets so far this season including a pair of fourth place performances.
Cristan Newton (Shreveport, La.) had an excellent performance as he placed 14th, which is his highest finish of the year. Newton also recorded a season-best time in the 8k as he crossed the finish line in 31:25.9.
Freshman Nick Noel (Belvidere, Ill.) continues to improve as he also had his best effort of the year. Noel finished in 18th place with a season-best time of 31:41.7.
The duo of Maxi Herrera-Herrera (Rockford, Ill.) and John Finley (Rockford, Ill.) finished 25th and 26th respectively. Herrera-Herrera crossed the finish line in 32:07.9 with Finley not far behind posting a time of 32:23.3.
Rockford's final runner at the event was Kyle Roewer (Belvidere, Ill.). Roewer placed 38th with a time of 36:48.3 in his first meet as a Regent.
The RU cross country team returns to competition in two weeks at the Benedictine Eagle Invite.
