Rockford Competes at Non-Scoring Pioneer Open

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Both the RU men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in their third meet in as many weeks on Saturday when the Regents traveled north to the Pioneer Open. Unlike Rockford's first two meets of the season, Saturday's competition was non-scoring. However, the Regents still had multiple good individual efforts. 

Senior Justin Christiansen (Rockford, Ill.) turned in a pair of excellent performances in his first meet of the season. Christiansen took 6th in the high jump with a height of 1.81 meters and 11th in the long jump with a distance of 5.71 meters. 

Freshman Nathan Alldritt (Winnebago, Ill.) competed in the long jump for the first time this season. Alldritt placed 10th in the event with a distance of 5.80 meters. 

The trio of Nick Noel (Belvidere, Ill.)John Finley (Rockford, Ill.) and Cristan Newton (Shreveport, La.) all competed in both the 3000 meter and mile race. Noel led Rockford with a 20th place finish in the 3000 meter race with a time of 10:35.77 and set a new personal best in the mile run crossing the finish line in 5:10.96 to place 26th. Finley led Rockford in the mile run placing 25th with a time of 5:10.44 and also finished 21st in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:36.26. Newton set new personal bests in both events with a time of 10:43.88 in 3000 meter and a time of 5:11.62 in the mile. 

The duo of Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.) and Jonathan Ponce Cuiriz (Kewanee, Ill.) led the way for Rockford in the throwing events. Johnson placed 24th in the shot put with a throw of 11.17 meters and 30th in the weight throw with a distance of 10.87 meters. Ponce Cuiriz finished 29th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 10.30 meters and 32nd in the weight throw with a personal best distance of 9.95 meters. 

On the women's side, Rockford was led by Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.) and Katrina Kopfhamer (Portage, Wis.). Buechner took 16th in the 60 meter with a time of 8.56 seconds and 32nd in the 200 meter with a time of 29.00 seconds. Kopfhamer finished 32nd and set a new personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 9.70 meters and took 33rd in the shot put with a distance of 7.94 meters. 

The indoor track and field teams return to competition in two weeks at the Monmouth College Fighting Scot Invite.
