LISLE, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team fell 8-2 on the road Wednesday night to the Benedictine University Eagles. Benedictine came out of the gates on fire scoring a trio of goals in the first twelve minutes. The Eagles would add two more goals over the next thirteen minutes to grab a commanding 5-0 lead midway through the first half. Fortunately the Regents found the back of the net in the 33rd minute when junior Bailey Beard (Rockford, Ill.) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist from Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.), making it a 5-1 game. However, the Eagles responded with another goal less than eight minutes later to take a 6-1 lead into the half.
The second half got off to a great start as Rockford scored just over four minutes into the period. It was junior Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) who scored his third goal of the year assisted by Carlos Galvan (Rockford, Ill.). Unfortunately that was as close as the Regents would get for the remainder of the night, as the Eagles added two more goals en route to an 8-2 win.
The RU men's soccer team returns to the field on Saturday, October 14 at home against Marian University. The match has a scheduled start time of 1:00 PM at Sportscore 2.
