ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University men's soccer team returned to action today to take on Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. The Regents were looking to earn their second conference victory on the season. Unfortunately, the team was unable to do so falling by the final of 2-1.
Both teams had to deal with poor conditions as rain fell for the majority of the match, leading to many problems with footing on the field. However, in the first half the Falcons drew first blood scoring in the 27th minute to put the Regents down 1-0. Rockford responded with their own goal off of a beautiful corner kick from Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.) that ended up in the back of the net off of a Concordia University Wisconsin defender. This brought the score to a tie at 1-1 in the 30th minute. Both teams were held at the same score until the Falcons broke the tie in the 51st minute. Concordia took the lead 2-1 and never relinquished it. Rockford put together multiple attempts at tying the game but were unsuccessful. The Regents fell by the final of 2-1.
Leading Rockford on the day were Omar Rivas (Capron, Ill.) with 2 shots and 1 coming on goal. Manriquez had 1 shot and it was on goal. Anthony Beck (Fishers, Ind.) had another solid performance in goal saving 11 shots on 13 attempts.
