MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The RU men's soccer team hit the road for the second time this week as the Regents took on NACC perennial power MSOE. The Regents played the Raiders tough as the match was within reach for early the entire afternoon. However, it was ultimately MSOE who was able to take advantage of a few Rockford miscues to secure a 4-0 win.
Neither team was able to get much going in the first half as the two schools combined for just two shots on goal. Unfortunately, it was the Raiders that broke the scoreless tie in the 16th minute to grab a 1-0 lead entering halftime.
The Regents played well for most of the second half but were ultimately hurt by a few late miscues. Rockford had a pair of good scoring opportunities in the second half with the first coming in the 71st minute of the match when the Regents were awarded a free kick just outside of the box. Unfortunately Erik Manriquez's (Rockford, Ill.) shot was just barely wide as the match remained 1-0. The Raiders then responded with their second goal of the afternoon less than two minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0. A few minutes after that, Rockford was awarded another free kick just outside of the box but again was unable to convert as the shot was blocked. The Raiders then promptly capitalized as they dribbled down the field on a breakaway to score their third goal of the match en route to a 4-0 win.
The RU men's soccer team will conclude its current three-game road trip on Wednesday, October 5 at Dominican University. The match has a scheduled start time of 4:00 PM.
