ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University Regents men's soccer team returned to action Saturday, after suffering their first loss of the season Friday, to take on Iowa Wesleyan University. Rockford had to fight back from a two goal deficit to push the game into overtime. Ultimately, the game went two overtimes with both teams tied at 3-3.

The Regents were outstanding in the first half gaining the lead and not relinquishing it. Rockford scored their first goal in the 12th minute of the first half when Omar Rivas (Capron, Ill.) knocked a shot into the back of the net. He was assisted on the play by a beautiful through ball from John Deleon (Des Plaines, Ill.). The Regents continued to push the ball and attempt to score but were unable to do so in the opening half. However, the Rockford defense was able to hold Iowa Wesleyan to 4 shots with only 2 coming on goal. The Regents led at the half 1-0.

In the second half, Rockford looked as if they were getting fatigued due to their second game in less than 24 hours. The Tigers scored three unanswered goals to open the half. However, the Regents did not give up and fought their way back into the game. Rivas scored his second goal of the contest when he put a shot into the back of the net off of a rebound, bringing the team back within one at 3-2. Finally, in the 87th minute Deleon tied it all up with a nice shot off of a beautiful pass from Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.). The goal tied the game up at 3 and took the game into overtime. In both overtimes each team was noticeably gassed from the grueling game. Unfortunately, the Regents were unable to tack on any goals and ended the game in a tie 3-3.

Playing well for Rockford on the day were Omar Rivas totaling 6 shots, with 3 coming on goal, and 2 goals. Rivas now has two multi-goal games on the season. John Deleon added 1 assist, 1 shot and 1 goal, for his second of the season.  Erik Manriquez tallied 2 shots, with 1 coming on goal, and an assist. Manriquez now has 6 assists on the season. Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) and Luis Ortega (Rockford, Ill.) each added 3 shots, with 1 coming on goal.
