ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (5-2, 3-0 NACC) hosted Concordia University Chicago (1-4, 0-3 NACC) on Saturday afternoon. Concordia Chicago stuck around throughout the whole game, but the Regents were able to put them away to come out with an 89-79 victory. The game would feature seven lead changes and six ties even with Rockford controlling most of the game. Both teams shot the ball very similar as CUC shot 41.7% from the floor compared to RU's 40.6% on the day.
In the first half it started off as a tight game until the Regents went on a 10-0 run to make the score 17-5. However, the Cougars answered right back going on a 14-0 run of their own to put themselves up 19-17. The remainder of the first half would continue to be close until the Regents ended out the half on a 10-0 run to go into halftime up 40-31. Senior Trae Blumhorst (Mendota, Ill.) played an important part in the first half scoring 16 points with 3 assists and a steal. Freshman Kevin Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) played well coming off the bench scoring 8 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Rockford outshot the Cougars 35.0% to 32.4% during the first half.
The second half was much like the first with the Regents controlling the pace of the game. Rockford saw its lead extend to 17 points with just under 13 minutes to play in the game. CUC would continue to claw back at Rockford, but the Regents would never relinquish its lead. Despite Rockford being outshot by the Cougars in the second half 51.4% to 48.3% the Regents took care of business and finished the game.
Rockford had four players score in double-digits on Saturday afternoon. Trae Blumhorst had a phenomenal game scoring a game-high as well as a career-high 30 points on 12-of-15 shooting including being 2-2 from behind the arc. Blumhorst also tallied 5 assists, a block and a steal. Will Adams (Chicago, Ill.) chalked up 14 points with 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Kevin Diemer played well coming off the bench putting together a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15 boards. Ben Weber (South Beloit, Ill.) helped contribute with 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Regents continue its impressive play improving to 5-2 on the season and remaining undefeated at 3-0 in the NACC.
The Rockford University men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, December 6 when they host Benedictine. The game is scheduled to start at 7 PM.
