LOVES PARK, Ill.- The Rockford University baseball team returned to action today to take on Lakeland Univesity in the final home game of the season. The two teams were scheduled to play over the weekend but were postponed due to poor weather. Rockford needed to win both games to remain in a solid position to push for the NACC tournament. The Regents did just that winning by the finals of 7-1 and 9-3.

The scoring began with Rockford hopping on the board in the first inning when Mitchell Gorsuch (Cherry Valley, Ill.) hit an RBI single into left field to drive in Cole Logemann (Lena, Ill.). Lakeland added an unearned run in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. The Regents were able to respond with three runs in the fourth inning. The scoring started when Josh Bergbreiter (Elk Grove, Ill.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Gorsuch. A few batters later Dalvin Ramos (Chicago, Ill.) placed a perfect bunt on the first base side for an RBI single plating Patrick O'Malley (Elk Grove, Ill.). Next Austin Smith (Peru, Ill.) hit an RBI single bringing in Britton Seivert (Rockford, Ill.). The runs gave RU the 4-1 advantage.

After the Regents added another run in the fifth they were able to tack on two more runs when Gorsuch once again plated Logemann for another RBI single. O'Malley drove in the final run of the game driving in Jose Miranda (Yuma, Ariz.). Rockford took the 7-1 lead and ultimately ended up winning by the final of 7-1.

Starting on the mound was David Camacho (Elk Grove, Ill.). Camacho was brilliant throwing his fourth complete game of the season lasting 9 innings allowing 8 hits, 1 unearned run while striking out 11 batters. He now owns a 2.69 ERA which is good for fifth in the NACC. Camacho's 6 wins are tied for second in the NACC.

In the second game RU jumped on the board first taking advantage of a wild pitch with the bases loaded to score a run. Lakeland added two in the second inning to take a 2-1 advantage. However, in the third the Regents responded with a run of their own to tie up the game at 2-2 when Bryce Hinkelman (Ottawa, Ill.) hit an RBI single to drive in Logemann. In the fourth Rockford tacked on another run to take a 3-2 lead when Logemann ripped a double down the left field line to bring in Seivert. Once again Lakeland was able to tie the game up with a run of their own in the fifth to make it a 3-3 game.

However, the Regents responded in the sixth when Miranda crushed a ball over the right-center field wall to drive in three runs to give them some breathing room with a 6-3 lead. Rockford was not finished in the inning as O'Malley hit an RBI single to right-center field to plate Gorsuch a few batters later. RU was able to add on two more insurance runs to prevail by the final of 9-3.

Starting on the mound in game two was Joseph Valdez (Tucson, Ariz.). Valdez faced a bit of bad luck as he threw 6 strong innings allowing 3 runs, with only 1 earned, while striking out 9. He constantly had the Muskies off balance. He earned his fifth victory of the season with the great performance. Spencer Lentz (Stillman Valley, Ill.) came in relief and pitched an inning of relief striking out 2 batters. Brady Frank (Freeport, Ill.) came in and closed the door in the final two frames allowing only one baserunner.

Leading the Regents offensively were Cole Logemann going 6-for-8 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI's and 2 walks. He is now tied for third in the NACC with a .413 batting average. Jose Miranda went 4-for-9 with a three-run home run, 2 runs scored and a walk. Mitchell Gorsuch went 3-for-6 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored and 3 walks. Patrick O'Malley went 5-for-9 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Britton Seivert went 4-for-9 on the day. Austin Smith went 2-for-5 with 3 runs scored in the second game.

RU returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, May 3 to take on Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. with a scheduled start time of 3 p.m.
