ROCKFORD, Ill. - This will be another light week in RU athletics as there are a total of just two varsity game dates. The baseball team hits the road for the second straight weekend on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Augustana University Vikings, while the softball team opens the home portion of its season on Sunday against the Mount Mary University Blue Angels.
Baseball (5-6, 0-0 NACC)
The RU baseball team looks to get back on track and snap its four-game losing streak this Saturday when the Regents travel to take on Augustana. Rockford is 4-10 all-time against the Vikings and have dropped five straight in the series. This weekend's games could be the toughest yet for the Regents who have already played a very challenging non-conference schedule. The Vikings are currently 12-1 and were ranked 20th in last week by D3baseball.com. In order to knock off Augustana, the Regents will need to find a way to solve a Vikings pitching staff that ranks in the top 35 nationally with a 2.57 earned run average.
Softball (2-8, 0-0 NACC)
The Regents softball team will try to build upon its split this past weekend with the Buccaneers when it welcomes the Mount Mary University Blue Angels to the Smith Athletic Field on Sunday. Rockford is 12-2 all-time against Mount Mary; however, the series has been more competitive as of late with the Regents and Blue Angels splitting the season series in each of the last two years. On paper, Sunday's doubleheader appears to be good matchup as both teams enter the week with an identical overall record and very similar statistics. Stat wise, Mount Mary seems has a slight offensive edge, while the Regents appear to have an advantage with their pitching staff.
